Interestingly, before leading the Dewport Guards, his history actually begins against the law - working as a cook on a pirate ship. As a young man he joined a group of pirates for the sake of seeing the world, intrigued by the harsh challenges presented by the merciless seas and the brutal, lawless lifestyle of the pirates. As the years passed, the more fascinating places he got to see, the more devastating tragedies and senseless evil he had to witness. He slowly began to realize that the men he once looked up to were not what they claimed they were. Instead of free-spirited rebels they were slaves for the hunger for money and power. There was no brotherhood and common good only existed when these individuals were unable to reach their selfish goals alone. His final change of heart happened when the ship’s crew returned from their resupply stop at Dewport one night. Some members had started a fight at the harbor inn, one had been stabbed and others beaten up and driven away by the locals. Back on the ship the humiliated pirates planned an attack on the town to take revenge the next night. Gillie couldn’t let that happen. He wanted to be nothing like these people he had called brothers for years. So he decided to cook them one last supper before moving on. In the morning none of his former brothers woke up when he raised the sails and anchor, lowered the rowboat and calmly started rowing towards Dewport, his new home to be…. they never woke up. Gillie’s weather-beaten and wrinkled face tells the stories of fifty years, each gray hair earned through hardship and a story of its own. The rest of his physical appearance suggests he’s only slightly over 30, as he’s in excellent physical condition and very strong. His frame is thick and he’s about the average height. His total lack of tattoos made him a unique pirate; Gillie is probably the only pirate in existence with no tattoos at all. This was because of his will to stay free and not to brand himself. His former captain allowed this exception finally, when during his initiation after first trying to just say no, Gillie decided to rather tattoo the tattooist than take a tattoo himself.
