The barrier is not only limited to trapping an intended target, since Ryoji has made four statues that are spread across the four corners of the leaf village bearing specific tags, these tags are inscribed with words such as north, south, east and west. In order to put up the barrier around the village Ryoji must be at the center of the village when activating the seal tags; once the appropriate hand sign are done the seals tags will activate, summoning the four gates to their respective positions corresponding to each tag seal. The north tag summons the gate of truth, the south tag summons the gate of justice, east tag summons the gate of virtue and the final west tag summons the gate of sacrifice, once all four gates are summoned they will create a rectangular protective barrier around the leaf village. This barrier has a very high durability; anything that comes into contact with it will immediately feel a burning sensation causing it to feel immense physical pain. The only way to pass through the barrier unharmed is with a special seal, which is only known to Ryoji. Once the barrier is up nothing can get into the village and nothing can get out without Ryoji knowing about it. As a final failsafe Ryoji can use his Mangekyo technique Shiva to teleport the entire village into another dimension, using the same tag seals that were used to summon the four gates, though doing so depletes almost more than half of his chakra reserves and he requires to wait an entire hour before he can bring the village back to its original location using the same Shiva technique.
