| - The movie starts with Ellen, whose clearly distressed, driving down a secluded road in the mountains. While changing radio channels, she is momentarily distracted and this has grave consequences as she suddenly collides with a car before her, before slipping through and being knocked for a moment. In her unconscious state she thinks back at when she and her husband, Bruce were dating. Bruce told her that he learned how everything could happen at anytime and people have to be prepared, before sharing his conservative world views. She is amused by his stories and soon after they drive to his cabin in the woods, where they have sex. The flashback ends with Ellen waking up in her car, realizing what happened. After she discovers that her car is unable to drive any further, she decided to check on the driver, whose car she hit but to her surprise the car is empty. She is disturbed when she sees large pools of blood that lead her to the guardrail and over the edge. As she calls out for the driver, making excuses for the accident, she is able to cast a light on who she though was the driver. To her horror, she learns that the woman who was driving the car, has been attacked by a deformed killer, the monstrous Moonface, who quickly goes after her. She flees into the forest and fights of her attacker once, before setting a simple yet effective trap. As she discovers that she on a legde, with no way to escape anymore. A second flashback is shown, and a few months have passed since the first flashback. It reveals that her husband was a survivalist, who forced his paranoia onto her, although he saw it more as teaching. In attempt to fight back, she puts up a second trap but this backfires when it is triggered by the first victim of Moonface. The third trap went even worse as it missed Moonface and hit her under the collar bone. As Ellen escapes, Moonface hushes his first victim. Meanwhile, Ellen comes across some of the killer's handywork as his cabin is surrounded by hanging corpses. But then, Moonface shows up again, terrifying her so much, she passes out. A third flashback shows her husband scolding her. Again, an unspecified amount of time had passed since the last flashback, and it is clear that the first love has cooled. He forced her to prove her worth, prove she would be able to survive. She was annoyed by it, but this only leads to more scolding. She does however proof that she is better than he thought, but only when she is angry. During the training, she accidently cuts him before saying that she can't live like this and revealed her plans of leaving him. In the present, she wakes up in the basement of Moonface's cabin, being chained to a pillar, with the unconscious body of the driver next to her and Buddy, another victim of Moonface. Buddy comes across to be as crazy as a post. He does however knows a lot about Moonface, explaining to Ellen what Moonface M.O. is and how Moonface thinks. As his story concludes, Moonface returns and places the driver on his working table. But as he strapped down the woman, she wakes up and start screaming as he removes both her eyes with a drill press, forcing Buddy and Ellen to watch. After killing her, he walks up to Ellen, hushing her, before he takes her upstairs. As she tries to free herself, Buddy annoyes her by singing. After she shouts him, he decides to help her and tells her to pull the nail file out of her wound and use it to open her cuffs. As she is successful, he reveals that he was never chained and calls Moonface, betraying Ellen. As Moonface comes for her, she knocks Buddy out, to silence him and when Moonface tries to kill her, she stabbed him a the file. Moonface follows her upstairs but in the skirmish that follows, she is able to push him out the window. He is able to grab a sheet, and thinks that he will make it. But the sheet isn't strong enough and results in him falling down. With the killer dead, she looks around, looking for tools. She finds some boots and put them on, before arming herself with a revolver she finds on a table. She returns to her car and repairs her car before opening the trunk. In the trunk lies Bruce's corpse. A final flashback reveals that after she broke up with him, he trapped her in his cabin and raped her. In retalliation, she garroted him with his belt. She was driving down the mountain road to dump his body! And with meeting and killing Moonface, she found the perfect scapegoat. She drags his corpse to Moonface's basement, drills out his eyes, ready to hang him outside. She forces Buddy, who she has bounded on a chair, using a rope to watch. After she hanged Bruce outside, making it appear like he was yet another victim of Moonface. Buddy speaks out his regrets for what she has become, before she pulls the handgun on him. As he screams in denial, she hushes him, mimicking Moonface, before shooting him. The film ends with her driving off.
