This league had been the Western Canada Senior Hockey League from 1945-46 until 1949-50. It changed its status to Major in 1950-51 when the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association introduced that level. That classification allowed the teams to sign both amateur and professional players. The league only lasted the one season - 1950-51. The teams were eligible for the Alexander Cup. After this season the league folded and Saskatoon, Calgary, and Edmonton joined the professional Pacific Coast Hockey League.
