abstract
  • Singer/songwriter Aleah was born in Cape Town, South Africa from an English/Irish/French bloodline, but her parents' wish to leave apartheid South Africa brought her to Sweden as a small child. Aleah started writing songs in her early teens and fronted various demo bands. After high-school she spent the next few years traveling the world on what became a ”spiritual quest” of sorts. During this time her teenage passion for the metal and gothic musical genres was temporarily laid aside while she explored more electronic horizons, and singing was pretty much abandoned apart from some sporadic collaborations such as ”Binah” with producers Simon Posford (Schpongle) and George Barker (Slinky Wizard). Gradually, as Aleah settled down back in Sweden she started writing songs again, but never made any attempts to record and release anything of her own. Again she would occasionally appear on other people’s releases, contributing with her signature ghostly, melancholic vocals on albums such as Omnimotion's ”Dream Wide Awake” and Krister Linder’s ”Songs from the Silent Years”. According to Aleah herself it was not until after the break-up of her long term relationship that she finally threw herself whole-heartedly back into writing, singing and recording her own material, fueled by a series of painful events in her life. The result of this period was the launching of her solo project, simply under the name "Aleah", and the demo album that now can be found on most musical platforms around the internet. In 2009 Aleah teamed up with Juha Raivio, composer and guitarist in the death/doom metal band Swallow the Sun to create the band Trees of Eternity. The band is currently working on their debut album, aiming for a 2013 release. Aleah has also contributed vocals to the song Lights on the Lake on the Swallow the Sun album New Moon as well as some vocal atmospherics on their follow up album Emerald Forest and the Blackbird.
