Hurricane Fred was the first December Major Hurricane, and the final storm of the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season. A costly hurricane, Fred formed over Cape Verde as a Tropical Storm instantly. It rapidly strengthened to a Category 3. Then it strengthened to a Category 4. The storm reached Category 3 status on December 3, and Cat. 4 on December 4. It made landfall over Puerto Rico as a Category 3 then in Cuba as a Category 2. It weakened over The Bahamas on December 11. Fred then became ex-tropical near the Carolinas on December 12 and maintained its December 12 at 15:00 UTC until December 13 at 06:00 UTC, where it weakened to a Ex-Tropical Storm. It dissipated fully on December 15 at 19:05 AST.
