Ambar is the term for the Earth itself, excluding the celestial bodies, was Ambar or Imbar. It is the raw, solid, and pure earth that was the base and core of Arda before the change (during the First Age). Because the Sun, Moon, Stars, and other objects orbited the planet in the cosmology of Middle-earth, they were considered part of Arda, leading to Arda sometimes being called the 'Solar System' of Middle-earth.

abstract	Ambar or Imbar was the Quenya Term for the World inside of Arda.The Planet of Ambar was known to have three continents: * Middle-Earth * the New Lands on the other side of the planet Ambar opposite to middle-Earth * the dark Lands, once the southeastern part of Middle-Earth In the first and second Age two other continents Aman and Easternesse were situated east and west of Middle-Earth, in the second age between Middle-Earth and Aman there also was the smaller Island-continent of Númenór.Near the end of the second age however Númenór sank and Aman was moved away by Eru and, while still considered a part of Arda was not found anymore on the Planet of Ambar and could only be reached by the straight road .Easternesse was either also moved away or was destroyed or, as some believe, became the New Lands.
