The 1978 Northern Autumn Cup was the 10th edition of the Autumn Cup as a competition for Northern League teams. Eight teams participated in the tournament, which was won by the Fife Flyers. A new club, the Sunderland Chiefs, participated in the competition. They "borrowed" several players from the Durham Wasps and Whitley Warriors, a move which was frowned upon by other Cup participants.
