Ervin, though, struggled when he returned for a two-race stint during the 1952 season. Starting 34th in the field of thirty-seven, Ervin lost his engine early in the race and wound up 37th. He only fared a bit better at Langhorne, recording a mediocre 24th place finish. Ervin also competed in a pair of events during the 1953 season, though Ervin was able to regain some of his previous form. After finishing a midpack 22nd in his return to Langhorne, Ervin garned his second and final career top-ten finish with a 9th place showing at Bloomsburg. Ervin's final career races came during the 1954 season, when he again competed in a pair of Northeast races. Evrin recorded his best effort yet at Langhorne in May by finishing 13th despite overheating. However, Ervin ended his career by struggling to 36th at Linden.
