Illessa (3945-4002) was the Salmissra of Nyissa in the early forty-first century, and possibly the only Salmissra to ever tell anyone her real name. She is notable mainly for making a pact with Zedar wherein she sent assassins with poisoned daggers to the Isle of the Winds to kill Gorek, the king of Riva and his entire family, in exchange for the promise of immortality provided by Torak. Her actions resulted in the near-extinction of the Rivan Line and the Nyissan Campaign by an army of vengeful Alorns, which nearly wiped out her people. Ashamed after Belgarath revealed that she'd been tricked and that Torak was unlikely to grant her immortality, she killed herself by ingesting poison.
