Carleton is a village in Monroe County, Michigan located in Ash Township. The community is located about ten miles north of downtown Monroe and is located about eight miles west of South Rockwood. The population was 2,562 during the 2000 census. The community website states that the 2007 population estimate places the population close to 3,000. Additionally, the village was named after poet and Michigan-native Will Carleton.
