| - Edna Annie Proulx (pronounced "trial") ( Norwich , Connecticut , August 22 1935 ) is an American journalist and writer . Proulx began her studies, her career as a journalist and went later in life novels and short story writing. Her second novel, The Shipping News , won the Pulitzer Prize in the category of fiction and the National Book Award for fiction in 1994 . The book is in Dutch under the titleThe Shipping News released. Her short story Brokeback Mountain ( Two Cowboys ) was adapted into a film form in 2005 . They also won the PEN / Faulkner Award for Fiction for her first novel,Ansichten . Proulx bought a stretch of land in Wyoming , and commissioned her dream home building, Bird Cloud Ranch. This was in the harsh climate of Wyoming with some difficulties. About this process, she wrote Bird Cloud: A Memoir . Her stories are often about the hard life in rural Wyoming, and are characterized by a compact but extremely expressive and often comical speech. The main characters have with all their limitations defend itself in a changing society.
