  • Terrence Franklin Connors (born 17 January, 1941) is a retired Democratic American politician and diplomat, best known for serving as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the John Burwin administration (1993-1997). Prior to this post, Connors was the junior United States Senator from Peninsula (1983-1989) and a State Representative in the Peninsula House of Representatives(1975-1983), serving a single term as Speaker. A self-made millionaire, Connors was active in the real-estate boom in Peninsula from the late 1950's through the mid-2000's, and used much of his personal funds in his various campaigns. He was selected as the running mate in Frank Reed's failed 1988 Presidential bid, and his presence on the ticket was widely seen as contributing to Reed's loss to the Robert Redford-George Bush ticket. Connors mounted a substantial primary campaign in 1992 as a conservative Democrat but lost to the more charismatic and savvy John Burwin, who sucked up the moderate vote, and withdrew his attempted 2000 run before a single primary due to lack of funding and enthusiasm for his campaign. Connors retired from his real estate consulting firm, the Connors Group, in 2006 at the age of 65.
