Gil Brooks was considered one of the top football coaches in Pennsylvania, building the Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep program into a perennial power. But Brooks suddenly was fired last week by St. Joseph's president, Father George Bur. Brooks had a 162-57-2 record in 18 seasons with five Philadelphia Catholic League championship.
