Gypsy Sun and Rainbows (sometimes shortened to Rainbows; also known as A Band of Gypsys) was a band comprising guitarist/singer/songwriter Jimi Hendrix, drummer Mitch Mitchell, bassist Billy Cox, rhythm guitarist/singer/songwriter Larry Lee, percussionist Juma Sultan and conga player Jerry Velez. Formed in New York in August 1969 after the breakup of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Rainbows was active for just one month, a run which resulted in only four live appearances, most notably at the Woodstock Festival where they made their debut.
