- Alternative rock is the most awesome genre anyone has ever made up, and has been existant since a long time ago. It is was brought up as popular when the band Flo Rida was alternative rock, and they made it popular by the use of rap. Pretty weird, eh? It blends alternative (which means, ehm....I'll have to get back to you on that) and rock music.
- “Let he who is without sin throw it,” Jesus answered. As it happened, one of them was a goody-two-shoes that didn’t eat pork or whatever, so he got to throw the rock. The other asked Jesus: Thus, alternative rock was invented.
- Alternative Rock is an umbrella term for a number of genres of music that emerged in the 1980s and became popular in the 1990s. Alternative Rock bands, or alt-rock bands, were Post Punk inspired bands signed to Independent labels that didn't fit into the mainstream, which was dominated by Metal, New Wave, and other genres. Genres within Alternative Rock include Grunge, Indie Rock (which is itself an umbrella term), Post Rock, Gothic Rock, College Rock, and others.
- Alternative Rocks musical roots go back to the 1980s during the period of New Wave. U2 was a major influence on the formation of Alternative Rock. In the 1990s the formation of Nirvana set the alternative movement as a major part of Rock and Roll.
- Alternative rock (also called alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative; known primarily in the UK as indie) is a genre of rock music that emerged in the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s. Alternative rock consists of various subgenres that have emerged from the independent music scene since the 1980s, such as grunge, Britpop, gothic rock, and indie pop. These genres are unified by their collective debt to the style and/or ethos of punk, which laid the groundwork for alternative music in the 1970s. At times alternative rock has been used as a catch-all phrase for rock music from underground artists in the 1980s, and all music descended from punk rock (including punk itself, New Wave, and post-punk).
- Alternative rock (also called alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular by the 1990s. In this instance, the word "alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music, expressed primarily in a distorted guitar sound, subversive and/or transgressive lyrics and generally a nonchalant, defiant attitude. The term's original meaning was broader, referring to a generation of musicians unified by their collective debt to either the musical style, or simply the independent, D.I.Y. ethos of punk rock, which in the late 1970s laid the groundwork for alternative music. At times, "alternative" has been used as a catch-all description for music from undergrou

- A term used when looking at a stone and talking about a different stone... Ow, okay, just kidding. Rock that is alternative. Weird. Different, somehow. Only way you can describe it, really. Also known as "indie" in the UK (in the US, it describes a different subgenre of alternative rock, the one that bands like Pavement, The Decemberists and Death Cab for Cutie play. Also like "alternative", the "indie" in this genre's name is not to be taken literally - many key indie rock bands have left their independent labels to sign to major labels and the term "indie rock" now describes the general aesthetic and overall sound these bands perform).
