Later kwam hij er weer bovenop en werd de leider van de Cardassian unie, nadat hij ervoor gezorgd had dat Cardassia zich bij de Dominion kon voegen. Na zijn nederlaag tijdens Operatie terugkeer bekeerde hij zich tot de Pah-wraiths, en probeerde ze samen met kai Winn Adami in het Bajoran wormgat los te laten. Dukat werd gevangen gezet in de vuurgrotten van de Pah-wraiths na een confrontatie met de Afgezant van de Profeten.
- Gul Skrain G. Dukat is a major antagonist in Star Trek Deep Space Nine and is a high-ranking member of the Cardassian race (Gul is actually a title rather than part of his true name). However, like many antagonistic forces in Star Trek, Dukat is not fully evil and will aid the protagonists on occasions, making him somewhat of a wildcard who can be an enemy one minute and an ally the next. He was portrayed by Marc Alaimo.

Following his defeat in Operation Return and the death of his beloved daughter Ziyal, he suffered a complete mental breakdown and was captured by the Federation when it reclaimed space station Deep Space 9. He subsequently escaped, and became a disciple of the Pah-wraiths. Along with Kai Winn Adami, he attempted to release the Pah-wraiths into the Bajoran wormhole. Dukat was imprisoned in the Fire Caves with the Pah
- Most characters in TV have a device inside them that makes them either "good" or "evil". Gul Dukat is one of those delicious characters whose device is defective. Dukat started off as a Kirk-like equivalent in the brutal Kardashian expansionist military regime. When DeepSpaceNineLand was known as "TerokNorLand", he was the general manager and colonial overseer of planet Bajor. His job involved keeping the "lesser peoples" under his "protection" from harming those that would take their world from them. Dukat ruled the Bajorans, who themselves were a nice enough group of folks for a bunch of space hippies, with a combination iron fist and genuine concern for their well-being.

Tora Ziyal fue asesinada por un allegado a Dukat cuando tuvieron que evacuar Deep Space 9. Impulsó al gobierno Cardasiano a unirse al Dominio cuando estos entraron al cuadrante Alfa.
