- The TIE Oppressor Strike Starfighter is a heavy fighter of the Imperial Navy. Imperial Ace Pilots gain the authorization to fly these gunships, and with two weapons pods and three ordnance bays, they make up in firepower what they may lack in maneuverability. The TIE features an unusual dorsal third solar array, and has larger mass than many lesser starships.

* TIE Oppressor Chassis Blueprints Although labeled a heavy fighter, the TIE Oppressor carries far less mass, half the firepower, and possesses a speed and maneuverability profile no better than the B wing, and is actually out maneuvered by the MT-22 Krayt.

The craft was introduced into combat shortly after the Battle of Yavin.
- The Oppressor was an unusual design in that it combined the roles of starfighter and bomber in one ship. It had a heavy offense and an equally heavy defense. Its speed was somewhat faster than a bomber, but it could easily engage enemy starfighters if equipped with the appropriate ordinance. The Oppressor's heavy armament consisted of two chin-mounted medium laser cannons and three missile launchers. Each launcher carried four concussion missiles, allowing it surprising power to fight capital ships. Often deployed with the faster TIE Aggressor for escort, the Oppressor could still defend itself if it needed to. It also carried mounts for engine boosters that allowed it to dupe enemy pilots into thinking they were slow, easy craft to kill. When an enemy closed in, it suddenly activated its boosters and performed a 180-degree turn, catching the enemy pilot off balance moments before killing him/her. The Oppressor had heavy shielding, armor, and a hyperdrive. It was coupled with the TIE Aggressor for maximum effectiveness.
- The TIE Oppressor is a starfighter that is deployed in limited numbers among selected units of the Imperial starfighter cadre elite. The TIE Oppressor was designed as a light bomber, able to also be used as a fairly maneuverable fighter, similar to the BTL Y-Wing Starfighter. It is an attempt to build a variant of the standard TIE hull that can carry heavy weapon payloads with sufficient armor and shielding to allow the ship to operate in the vanguard of an Imperial assault force. It also has enough solar array surface to assist in generation of the energy needed to power everything. All of the offensive and defensive equipment packed into the Oppressor comes at the cost of space for engine installations. Although most Imperial fighters are designed to have superior maneuverability, many TIE Oppressor pilots rate its capabilities as merely average. Its lack of dizzying maneuverability is a result of the fact that it mounts the same basic engine system found in earlier TIE starfighter models even though it has a much heavier and more bulky spaceframe. In exchange for the deficits in combat maneuvering capability, the Oppressor carries one of the most potent offensive and defensive packages fielded in any Imperial starfighter spaceframe. While the TIE Oppressor is designed to primarily engage against capital ships, it is also more than capable of engaging enemy starfighters with its extremely large missile capacity. When equipped with anti-starfighter ordnance, the Oppressor proves extremely deadly against even the most maneuverable starfighters and is possibly one of the greatest anti-starfighter vessels of its time.
