Hossfeld's debut came in 2000, when he competed at California for Roush Racing. Starting 14th in the field, Hossfeld completed most of the race before engine issues left him 31st. Hossfeld, though, still earned a full-time ride with Roush in 2001. It started off well enough, with Hossfeld earning six top-twenty finishes in seven starts, including a career-best 10th place showing at Pikes Peak. But after slipping in the two races followings Pikes Peak, Hossfeld was released from his contract with Rousch racing, but continues to race a NASCAR open wheel modified on the Whelen Modified Tour. He had a successful 2008 season, winning twice and appearing in line for the championship before a late season swoon.
