The Sanger Institute is working on sequencing the DNA from this strain so that they can be compared to non-diabetic mouse strains, in the hope that any differences in the sequences can help pinpoint genes which cause or contribute to diabetes in mice. This knowledge can guide future research into the human genes which cause the disease, leading to better diagnosis and treatment.
