Dame Shelagh Marjorie Roberts (13 October 1924 - 16 January 1992) was an industrial relations consultant and Conservative Party politician. Born in South Wales, she moved to London where she became a member of Chelsea Borough Council in 1953, and of its successor Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council from 1965 - 1971. In 1970 she became a member of the Greater London Council representing Havering 1970 – 1973 and Upminster 1973 – 1981. In 1977 she became Chair of the GLC's Planning and Communications Policy Committee. From 1976 - 1979 she was a member of the Port of London Authority and was chairman of the London Tourist Board and Convention Bureau from 1989 until her death. From 1979 until 1989 Roberts was Member of the European Parliament for London South West. It was announced that she was to receive a life peerage on 31 December 1991, but she died in January 1992 before receiving it. More information on the Wikipedia page [1].
