Republican Party candidate and incumbent President Scott Walker defeated Democratic Party candidate and California Governor Gavin Newsom; Libertarian Party candidate and Mississippi Congressman Austin Petersen; and American Party candidate and Florida Governor Adam Putnam. Walker profited from a strong economy as well as the success of Operation Nightfall.

This election featured the first time Puerto Rico was granted voting rights in a presidential election, having been given statehood in 2019.
