TenNapel was well-known for creating Earthworm Jim, while Langdale was well-known for creating The Weekenders. The movie is based on CBS's 1996 Saturday Morning cartoon series of the same name. Project G.e.e.K.e.R. is also Sony Pictures Animation's first animated feature film to feature characters from the Adelaide Productions library, due to Sony Pictures Animation's 2013 Acquisition of Adelaide Productions.
