Typhoon Muifa, known in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Vina was one of the strongest tropical cyclones in the Philippines, and one of the most catastrophic cyclones, along with Super Typhoon Mirinae, and is one of the strongest since Tip (Warling) in 1979. Muifa formed as a low pressure area near Kosrae on November 25, 2016, and developed into a tropical depression near Pohnpei, and rapidly strengthened into a typhoon, one and a half week after it formed as a tropical depression.

Muifa formed as a low pressure area near Kosrae on November 25, 2016, and developed into a tropical depression near Pohnpei, and rapidly strengthened into a typhoon, one and a half week after it formed as a tropical depression. On December 9, Muifa made landfall over Metro Cebu at peak intensity, and damaged more than what 2013's Super Typhoon Haiyan did in Tacloban, Leyte.
