  • Kurt Mitchell is the NIS (the former name for NCIS) Special Agent that was tasked with protecting Kelly Gibbs and Shannon Gibbs, the daughter and wife of then-USMC sniper Leroy Jethro Gibbs, after the two had witnessed Pedro Hernandez murdering one of his associates. However, he ended up shot by Hernandez while he was driving their vehicle, killing him instantly, causing the vehicle to crash and kill Kelly and Shannon. Benson Long, an infamous crime lord, also had ties to the murder, which resulted in Mitchell's son, DEA agent Luis "Mitch" Mitchell, trying to hunt him down and have him arrested and, if not take him down legally, eventually attempt to murder him in revenge.
