  • It is possible that the tales of jackalopes were inspired by sightings of rabbits infected with the Shope papilloma virus, which causes the growth of horn- and antler-like tumors in various places on the rabbit's head and body. However, the concept of an animal hybrid occurs in many cultures, for example as the griffin and the chimera. Indeed, the term chimera has become the categorical term for such composites within the English language.
  • The Jackalope is a cryptid that appeared once in Cartoon Network Action Pack #32: Sticks and Stones. The Jackalope is a mythical cryptid of North American folklore (a so-called "fearsome critter") described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns or deer antlers and sometimes a pheasant's tail (and often hind legs). The word jackalope is a portmanteau of "jackrabbit" and "antalope", an archaic spelling of antelope.
  • The Jackalope is one of nature's most peculiar non-fictional creations. First captured at the end of the American Civil War, current medical science believes that it is one of the Creator's strongest proof of existence. The natural habitat of the Southwestern Jackalope ranges from Chile to North Chile to the Chili's restaurant in Carson City, Nevada. Captured specimens may be found as far west as Canada. While much speculation exists concerning its natural food, most scientists believe its primary food source to be tequila or whiskey. It is a combination of Rabbits and Piano Playing Skeletons.
  • The origin of the jackalope is debated, and it is unknown which came first; the taxidermy hoaxes, or the actual alleged encounters. Despite being a North American species, rabbits and hares with antlers can be traced to Europe in the form of Lepus cornutus. However, there exists a virus in rabbits and hares, Shope papilloma virus, causing grotesque horn-like protrusions on the victims head. Legend has it jackalopes only mate during high electrical storms, hence their rarity. This varies from other members of the Lepus genus, who mate year-round (or winter, in less suitable climates).
