| - Jane Herzfeld was a Pearson College student who tutored to make ends meet. According to everyone who knew her she was a wonderful person, so when she turns up dead at the start of "Kick the Ballistics", particularly with cocaine residue on her clothing, it makes no sense. Things only get worse when the murder weapon is discovered to be the very police issue sidearm Jerry Tyson took off Ryan. Jane was an only child, hard-working, a good student, a great friend and a much in demand tutor from the picture the team piece together. However, among her tutees was Ben Lee, younger son of notorious Chinese gang boss Clifford Lee. As the pattern slowly solidifies, it becomes clear to Beckett and Castle that she was, regrettably, 'Juliet' to Ben's 'Romeo'. In this case the hothead looking to keep family and honor intact was Ben's big brother, Philip, the family enforcer, and the one who had served prison time with Tyson. Phillip was taken into custody, and Ben, alone, headed off to start a new life in Witness Protection. It seems that, as ever, the 3XK was playing mind-games with several parties on different levels, knowing the gun would mess with Ryan's focus and reputation, would drive the team to hunt the killer with even more than their usual fervor, and that it would twist a knife in all concerned to be reminded he was still out there. Jessie Graff, though uncredited, played Jane.
