The Merchant of Death is the first book in The Pendragon Adventure. It is primarily set on Denduron, and describes Bobby Pendragon's initial experiences as a Traveler. Bobby Pendragon seems to be just a regular fourteen year old, but on the night of his basketball team's big game, his uncle Press shows up at his house while Bobby and Courtney Chetwynde are kissing and says that he needs his help. They leave and jump on Press's motorcycle and ride to Bronx, Massachusetts. Press Tilton takes Bobby Pendragon to an old and abandoned subway station, where Saint Dane appears as a cop. Saint Dane makes a homeless person run into a train then transforms into himself, but the gun doesn't disappear. Press then tells Bobby to run into the train tracks, where he is supposed to find a door with a star

  • The Merchant of Death is the first book in The Pendragon Adventure. Press then tells Bobby to run into the train tracks, where he is supposed to find a door with a star on it, then open it and say "Denduron". Saint Dane then shoots at Pendragon and Press, and after Pendragon comes out of the flume, Press comes out shortly after. They then ride down the mountain, where they run into bears with spikes on their backs, which Press identifies as Quigs, cannibalistic creatures who were made by Saint Dane to protect the flumes. They then meet a warrior named Loor, and her mother, Osa. They experience first hand the turning point of Denduron and meet with a Bedoowan knight named Alder. Press then gets captured, and to be able to save him, Bobby asks Mark Dimond to bring some items to Denduron to rescue Press. Bobby then sees at the Second Earth flume, not only Mark, but Courtney Chetwynde, the girl Bobby had a crush on since grade school. They give him the materials, and he thanks them. On Denduron he rescues Press, then sees that the light Mark had brought had a battery that could detonate a whole lot of tak, an explosive material native to Denduron. it turns out that Figgis is Saint Dane in disguise and that the original Figgis died trying to keep tak secret. He dissolves a whole bunch of tak and goes underground to see that Saint Dane had found a huge tak mine, and so he destroys it, making all known tak on Denduron destroyed. Bobby then goes back to Second Earth for a little bit before going to Cloral, the setting for the next book.
