HIMS Sovereign began her career in the dockyards of Yaga Minor in 2 ABY as one of the earliest Imperator II-class Star Destroyers. Sovereign was originally assigned to patrol the Yaga system and defend the vital shipyards against the rising Rebel Alliance. Months later, Sovereign would be included into the Emperor's Pride Fleet and would fight through the entire campaign, from Bandomeer to Coruscant, and was one of the few warships under Warlord Tagger's command to escape with minimal damage.

During the chaos that prevailed after the Imperial defeat at the Battle of Endor, Sovereign was ordered by the Interim Ruling Council to immediately deploy to nearby Dreven and await further orders. There, Sovereign was one of the first vessels to greet the incoming Councilmen from Coruscant, and served as the temporary flagship for the Council during the initial few conferences. Months later, Sovereign would be included into the Emperor's Pride Fleet and would fight through the entire campaign, from Bandomeer to Coruscant, and was one of the few warships under Warlord Tagger's command to escape with minimal damage. After the failed initiative to reclaim Coruscant, Sovereign was assigned to protect Athaniss. As a result, she was largely absent from the campaigns waged by Bacharan Valak. After Valak's departure from the Empire, Vassily Korolov had Sovereign transferred to Selene, where she would become Korolov's flagship. With the rise of Emperor Vadim, the Sovereign would be transferred to Dreven as the center of power for the Imperial Court.
