Corporal Arthur Hanley was poisoned in France on July 17th 1917, by Mitchell, so that Mitchell could drink his blood. He poisoned Arthur so that he would not feel any pain. He was Mitchell's first victim, after he was recruited about four weeks earlier. Mitchell also tells Lia that Arthur Hanley was his friend.
