| - The FIA Formula 2 Championship (formerly called the GP2 Series) is a single-seater racing series introduced in 2005, which supports the Formula One World Championship during the Bahrain Grand Prix, the European leg and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2017. The series, whose rules mimic those of F1 to a significant degree, is a spec-limited series. This means that all teams run the same type of car, currently the Dallara GP2/11. As such, it is more a test of driver skill and car setup, than is the case in Formula One.

The series, whose rules mimic those of F1 to a significant degree, is a spec-limited series. This means that all teams run the same type of car, currently the Dallara GP2/11. As such, it is more a test of driver skill and car setup, than is the case in Formula One. The GP2 series is typically fed from the GP3 Series, Formula Renault 3.5 Series and various similar junior formulae, and has commonly been a feeder series to Formula One. As of 2014, 25 GP2 drivers (including six of the 10 champions) have moved on to Formula One. Two of these, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, have gone on to win the F1 World Championship. Currently, the reigning GP2 champion is not permitted to remain in the series for the following season. The reigning champion is Pierre Gasly, who clinched the 2016 series title at the final sprint race at Yas Marina.
