Emmy Poole was a woman who was best friends with Nora Webb, a young woman who had disappeared during the time that she, Webb and Justin Dobbs were all in high school. Several years later, Nora's skeleton remains were found and NCIS was called in to investigate as Dobbs who had recently died in Iraq was up for a Silver Star and the team were tasked with finding out if he was a murderer or not. Unable to cope, Emmy eventually killed herself with the local police discovering her body.

A chance call from Caitlin Todd eventually brought the NCIS Major Case Response Team to study the crime scene for themselves and according to Donald Mallard, Emmy's death was a suicide as the cuts on her wrists were found to be self-inflicted.
