(DS9 episode: "Family Business", ST - The Fall novel: Revelation and Dust) In early 2372, Yates offered his future brother-in-law Benjamin Sisko seats by the dugout at a future baseball game. Despite the eight week journey between Deep Space 9 and Cestus III, Sisko thought it would be worth it to see Yates play in a real baseball game. (DS9 episode: "The Way of the Warrior") Yates was known by the nickname of "Junior". His performances reminded many fans of Buck Bokai. (ST reference: Federation Travel Guide) By 2380, some considered Yates to be over the hill and past his prime, although others felt he could still play well at certain times. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)
