- Michael Lawson Sheard (born 18th June 1940, died 31st August 2005) appeared on Coronation Street in March and April 1989 as Arthur Dabner, a colleague of Derek Wilton who struck up a friendship with Emily Bishop. His appearance on the Street came off the back of a four-year stint in his most famous role of Latin teacher Maurice Bronson in children's TV drama Grange Hill. Born in Aberdeen, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and after initial stage work, he embarked on a long and distinguished screen career. Film credits include: Holiday on the Buses, The Hiding Place, Force 10 From Navarone, Escape to Athena, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, High Road to China and - in one of five different screen appearances playing Adolf Hitler - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Other television roles include: Dixon of Dock Green, The Likely Lads, Z Cars, Dr. Finlay's Casebook, Softly, Softly, Crossroads, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), The Persuaders!, The Onedin Line, Colditz, On the Buses, The Dick Emery Show, Not on Your Nellie, The Sweeney, The New Avengers, Mind Your Language, Crown Court, The Professionals, All Creatures Great and Small, Minder, Caught on a Train, Take a Letter Mr. Jones, Maggie, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Doctor Who, The Darling Buds of May and 'Allo 'Allo!. He died from cancer at his home on the Isle of Wight in 2005.
