- Joyeuse appears as a level 70 sword obtained as a drop from the Charybdis Notorious Monster. It has a damage rate of 35, a delay of 244, and increases dark resistance by 14 points. Its unique ability allows the wielder to occasionally attack twice. The sword can be equipped by Warriors, Red Mages, Paladins, Bards, Dragoons, Corsairs, and Dancers. Prior to the Abyssea updates, the Joyeuse was popular with Red Mages and "Dual Wield" Warrior builds.

- The Joyeuse is a legendary Holy Sword forged by God for the Archangel Tzaphqiel to use to combat against the Darkness. After some time, the Emperor Charlemagne somehow possessed the Holy Sword which was recovered and placed in the Louvre Museum for display.
- Joyeuse was intended as the ultimate weapon of Eleonora (the Party Elf) in the original draw-out of Random Kingdom VX. It is identical to the default "King's Sword" in the RPG Maker VX database, however, it has the hidden function of occasionally attacking twice (enabled by a script). In the game itself, the sword is still obtainable, but can instead be equipped by Horace and only after he becomes a Paladin.
- Joyeuse (ジュワユース Juwayūsu?) is an item that appears in Sonic and the Black Knight. It is an unlockable weapon that can be equipped to and wielded by Sir Percival.
- It is believed to be the Legendary Weapon that was used by the Legendary Paladin, but it is now stored inside the treasure box in King Erik's Chamber. To open this chest, you must be a Master rank Paladin, Blacksmith and Miner. (post-game)
- Joyeuse is an immensely powerful Sword of Power that is linked to elemental earth magic. The weapon, carved out of stone, is well-polished, dull-grey, and about three feet in length. Despite the material generally being vulnerable to weathering and shattering, the weapon is effectively impossible to destroy. In contrast to Excalibur and Clarent, which feature in numerous legends and play prominent roles throughout the series, little is known about Joyeuse and its history. Dee uses the four swords to create a ley gate to Coatlicue's Shadowrealm in an attempt to free the Archon, and along with the other swords Joyeuse becomes a part of Marethyu's Hook of Aether.

- In European folklore, Joyeuse was the sword of Charlemagne (King of the Franks and Lombards from 768-814 AD), one of the few notable figures from Europe during the Dark Ages. It became popular in legends and tales during the Middle Ages. According to these stories, it was forged from the Spear of Longinus, whose blade was forged into the sword's pommel. In the Medieval story Song of Roland, the sword was said to change its color 30 times a day. It is supposedly buried with Charlemagne. Joyeuse means "joyful". The Spear of Longinus in the pommel is said to be the spear that pierced Jesus Christ while on the cross in Christian literature.
- The 11th century Song of Roland describes the sword: [Charlemagne] was wearing his fine white coat of mail and his helmet with gold-studded stones; by his side hung Joyeuse, and never was there a sword to match it; its colour changed thirty times a day.
