If you have a choice, which level 4 creature to summon is largely a question of personal preference and tactical situation. Very few units can reach out and tie up a dangerous stack the way Mantises can. Even the dreaded Black dragons can be held at bay for a turn or two by a small group of Mantises, hopefully long enough for your non-caster ranged units to soften them up.
