The Burthorpe and Taverley tasks were released on 31 January 2012 with the rework of Burthorpe. Originally, there were 55 tasks to complete, but with the addition of Divination, there are now 65 tasks. Regardless of the number, these tasks were meant to serve as an introduction to the game; a tutorial. The majority of the tasks are designed to be done in a linear order, following the old now-removed Troll Warzone storyline. However, high level players have the option to skip the storyline and do the tasks in any order, and latter tasks are not in any particular order.

However, high level players have the option to skip the storyline and do the tasks in any order, and latter tasks are not in any particular order. Before the inclusion of Divination in late 2013, players could perform these tasks with ease. There used to be only one difficulty level and no skill requirements to complete any of the tasks. These tasks were also not necessary to perform the "Taskmaster" emote. But, due to Divination release, there is now a requirement of level 13 Divination, making part of this task-set required for the emote as well as the Completionist cape. Note, the original 55 tasks are NOT required; just the Divination tasks. While it's more convenient for members to get the necessary items from the NPCs they're surrounded by, non-members can get them from various spawning spots or buy them from the Grand Exchange. The Divination tasks are easier to complete without the purchase of the items, as there is currently a 5000 energy limit (per tier) on the Grand Exchange. The tasks that are automatically completed are in italics.
