Rakal was a Cardassian world in the Rakal system. The planet was orbited by four moons. The Cardassian military maintained a base on Rakal's fourth moon. In 2372, Kira Nerys suggested that the Klingon bird-of-prey that had attacked Korma might go to Rakal next and attack the base. Skrain Dukat knew that the base was subterranean and too fortified to be a viable target for the bird-of-prey and that it would take a Vor'cha-class cruiser to do any damage to the Rakal base. (DS9 episode: "Return to Grace") Rakal might be the origin of Rakalian p'losie.

It was sufficiently protected that a Vor'cha-class attack cruiser would be necessary to pose a significant threat to it. (DS9: "Return to Grace") This planet was only mentioned in dialogue. According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 47) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Stellar Cartography", pp. 18-19; "Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), "), there was a star system named Rakal, in which this planet might possibly have been located, in the Alpha Quadrant. The system's primary was a M-class star. According to a map of the Cardassian Union – prepared by an anonymous astrography clerk, from the Cardassian Central Archives, in 2364 – Rakal was identified as a Cardassian system.
