A French word used to describe foods that have been formed into long narrow shapes, appearing stick-like and somewhat similar to a baton. Various short, white bread loaves that are smaller than baguettes are often referred to as a bâtonnet or vegetables sliced into thin strips that are approximately ¼ inch square and 1 to 2 inches long are similarly referred to as bâtonnets.
