He played Tier II Junior "A" with the Gloucester Rangers in 1982-83 and was chosen 169th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Flichel then played for the Bowling Green Falcons from 1983 to 1987. Flichel turned pro in 1987-88 with the Moncton Hawks and played for them until 1990-91. He was called up for six games with the NHL Jets over that period, scoring one assist. He played three more seasons in the minor pros and then retired in 1994. Flichel was an assistant coach of Bowling Green in 1995-96 and 1996-97.
