The Laforey- or L class was the first to introduce a new naming pattern. All ships had mixed names before, but received new names starting with the letter of the class designation. The ships are an enhanced Acasta model, with modified artillery placements, four torpedo tubes and a clipper bow for better seagoing capability. Two sub-types have been built, which show little difference besides the number of their funnels: the 3f class has three, while the 2f has only two.
