  • In 1502, Frederick planned to found an academic institution in the city of Wittenberg. Dedicated to religious reform, it would have teachings that openly questioned the actions of the House of Borgia. In response, the Borgia attempted to prevent the opening of the university by sending Frederick a large monetary bribe. The Italian members of the Assassin Order became aware of this scheme and Mentor of the Italian Assassins, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, sent a team of Assassin apprentices from the Roman branch to intercept the money, having them dress in bandit attire to disguise their presence from the Borgia. After obtaining the bribe, they subsequently donated the money as an anonymous gift to Frederick and his newly instituted academy.
