The Srivani are a race of humanoids native to the Delta Quadrant. In 2374, the USS Voyager encountered a group of Srivani scientists that were performing scientific experiments on the Voyager crew without their knowledge. (VOY episode: "Scientific Method", VOY - Section 31 novel: Shadow) In 2376, Julian Bashir listed the Srivani, along with the Hirogen, Species 8472 and the Vaadwaur, as species native to the Delta Quadrant that could be a potential threat to the Federation. Bashir had been studying information gathered by the Pathfinder Project. (DS9 - Section 31 novel: Abyss)

  • Their experiments appear to be completely arbitrary, ranging from genetic manipulation to messing with hormonal balance of their victims. They claim, however, that they do obtain practical medical knowledge from it, and many members of their species benefit from the results.

  • The Srivani were a warp-capable humanoid species from the Delta Quadrant. The Srivani believed that experimentation on other species was an acceptable method of investigating their own physiology, and justified the inevitable harm caused by citing the number of Srivani lives saved as a result. Their normal method of experimentation involved using a phase variance of 0.15 to render themselves, their ships and their devices both invisible and intangible. They then attached to the hull of a passing starship and spent several weeks carrying out experiments on the crew. These experiments ranged from changes in body chemistry to complex DNA manipulation carried out by genetic tags, attached to the host DNA base pairs. They did not usually go out of their way to kill a test subject, but consider "minimal fatalities" perfectly acceptable. The Srivani featured large skin structures over their ears and mottled, colored portions between their forehead and their jaw. In 2374, a group of fifty-six Srivani used the USS Voyager as a testing ground. The experiments included adjusting the DNA of Commander Chakotay to make him prematurely age and stimulating the dormant Mylean DNA in Neelix, causing him to express the DNA handed down from his Mylean great-grandfather. They also forced Captain Janeway to become increasingly erratic by increasing her dopamine levels. They were discovered by Seven of Nine and The Doctor who revealed them to the rest of the crew. Since their technology could not be defeated, Janeway flew Voyager at a nearby binary pulsar, almost destroying the ship. The Srivani, realizing that they could be killed, retreated, losing one ship in the process. (VOY: "Scientific Method") The Srivani were not named in the episode as aired. Their species name comes from the shooting script. All the Srivani were played by female actors. The Star Trek Encyclopedia states the Srivani to be androgynous. The Srivani were also mentioned in the Pocket Books novel Abyss as being from the Delta Quadrant and are featured in Star Trek: The Magazine Volume 3, Issue 2.

They justified the inevitable harm caused by citing the number of Srivani lives saved as a result. (VOY: "Scientific Method", Star Trek: Phoenix-X) Their normal method of experimentation involved using an interphase cloaking device to render themselves, their ships and their devices both invisible and intangible. They then attached to the hull of a passing ship and would spend several weeks carrying out experiments on the crew. These experiments range from changes in body chemistry to complex DNA manipulation carried out by cloaked tags, attached to a host's DNA. In 2384, while investigating Borg transwarp conduits, the USS Phoenix-X was forced to into the Delta Quadrant where they were experimented on by the Srivani. As a result, Kayl, a human, was given telepathic power through the experimentations. Meanwhile, an infestation of interphasic organisms, from a previously installed Interphase cloaking device aboard the Phoenix-X, began to harm the Srivani (after some testing on the organisms themselves). The crew of the Phoenix-X were forced to help the Srivani and eliminate the interphasic organism infestation. (Star Trek: Phoenix-X: "Fantastic Method")
