  • The mysterious cave is a location in the Big MT in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.
  • The Mysterious Cave is an aquatic pathway which connects Route 316 and Huron Town together. Despite its appearance on the Vesryn Region map, it is not accessed through Caspian City. As it requires Dive in order for it to be navigated, the Mysterious Cave can only be explored once the player has obtained all of the Badges of the Vesryn Region.
  • It can spawn in one of the two watered-in nooks in Dahlgur Oasis. The cave can only be opened by helping Zaven the Alchemist fend off a few angry ghosts, after which he opens the cave and lets the player enter. This area must be explored in order to complete the achievement Nooks and Crannies. In Adventure Mode, there is a chance "Clear the Mysterious Cave" will be one of the five Act II bounties. If so, Zaven is guaranteed to spawn.

Depending on which Plane the Mysterious Cave appears on (i.e. Arcanus or Myrror), it may contain anything up to and including File:Icon Nature.pngGreat Wyrms (or File:Icon Chaos.pngGreat Drakes). Some Mysterious Caves are empty (containing no monsters).

While wearing the Hobbe Suit, standing in the circle in front of the statue will cause a Hobbe spirit to appear, similar to the spirits summoned by Raise Dead. abstract
  • A Mysterious Cave is one of the seven most basic Encounter Zone types. These are among the easier Encounters (relatively speaking), where the sites themselves have no added functionality. Mysterious Caves are guarded by Fantastic Creatures of the File:Icon Nature.pngNature Realm in the official game, and either File:Icon Nature.pngNature or File:Icon Chaos.pngChaos in Insecticide or later. The reward for defeating a Mysterious Cave's guardians is random, and varies based on the strength of these creatures. It can range from small amounts of File:Icon Gold.png and File:Icon Mana.png all the way up to new Spellbooks and Retorts (and, occasionally, "Absolutely nothing"). If the Treasure contains one or more Spellbooks, they will be books of of a random type (Wizards possessing any File:Icon Life.png books cannot get File:Icon Death.png, and vice versa). Unconquered Mysterious Caves may occasionally spawn Rampaging Monsters, a group of Neutral Fantastic Units matching the Realm of the site's defenders. The strength of these stacks increases as the game matures. These monsters will head straight for a nearby Town controlled by one of the Wizards. On the higher Difficulty Settings, they will typically target the human player's Cities.

The rear exit to the cave comes out in one of the crypts in the cemetery next to the ruined keep building. A chest in the cave contains the Night Blue Dye, and one of the Murgo Statuettes can be found near the entrance.

The cave may contain a Mysterious Chest which contains the Liquid Rainbow, an item needed to enter the fabled Whimsyshire. Note that neither Zaven nor the chest are guaranteed to spawn. It may also spawn a Cursed Spire in which you have to fend off 5 waves of zombies. This is required in order to complete the Cursebreaker of Caldeum achievement. In Adventure Mode, there is a chance "Clear the Mysterious Cave" will be one of the five Act II bounties. If so, Zaven is guaranteed to spawn.
