Aschelan V was a planet located in the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant, the fifth planet in orbit of the Aschelan star system, in the space of the Cardassian Union. Aschelan V was the site of a Cardassian fuel depot near the Badlands. It was the target of the Cardassian Dreadnought weapon which was reprogrammed by the Maquis. In 2370, B'Elanna Torres reprogrammed the Cardassian missile Dreadnought to destroy the depot on Aschelan V. However, the missile again failed to reach its target, as one day after its launch it was swept into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker. (VOY: "Dreadnought") This planet was only mentioned in dialogue. According to Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Stellar Cartography", p. 18-19; "Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the primary of the Aschelan system was a K-class star. According to a map of the Cardassian Union – prepared by an anonymous astrography clerk, from the Cardassian Central Archives, in 2364 – Aschelan was identified as a Cardassian system.

Als der Maquis in den 2360ern eine cardassianische ATR-4107 kapert programmiert B'Elanna Torres die künstliche Intelligenz des Marschflugkörpers ohne Wissen Chakotays so um, dass er das Depot auf Aschelan V angreift. Chakotay weiß nichts davon, und als er es erfährt ist er tief enttäuscht von B'Elanna. B'Elanna ist deswegen recht erleichtert, als die "Dreadnought" genannte Waffe in den Badlands verschwindet und für in einem Plasmasturm zerstört gehalten wird. Tatsächlich wird "Dreadnought" jedoch durch die Verlagerungswelle der Phalanx des Fürsorgers in den Delta-Quadranten versetzt. Dort irrt er mit beschädigten Sensoren umher, bis er Rakosa V findet und diesen Planeten aufgrund der starken Ähnlichkeit mit Aschelan V verwechselt. Die künstliche Intelligenz lässt sich trotz mehrer Versuche B'Elannas nicht davon überzeugen, dass Rakosa V nicht Aschelan V ist, und erst seine Zerstörung kann Rakosa retten. (VOY: ) Der Name dieses Planeten lässt vermuten, dass er der Planet eines Planetensystems mit der Bezeichnung „-System“ ist. Die Existenz dieses dazugehörigen Planetensystems lässt sich nicht durch Canon-Quellen belegen, ergibt sich allerdings aus der fiktiven Benennungskonvention, einen Planeten ohne speziellen Eigennamen nach dem dazugehörigen Zentralgestirn zu benennen.
