Perpetual calendars have existed for ages and have been developed by many cultures. Hindus used to base their calendars on the movement of planets and most importantly on the Moon's cycle. Therefore by this Hindus were able to figure out the exact day of the start of Kali yuga, and the birthdates of Lord Rama and Krishna. Traditional belief based on scriptural details and astrological calculations (Aryabhata) gives Rama's birth date as Feb 10, 5010 B.C. and Krishna's birth date as July 19th 3228 B.C. On these astrological calculations this Perpetual Calendar was formulated. Hindu astrologers also create an annual almanac named Panchang or Juntri which is a spiritual and scientific calendar, using the exact movements of planets and the Moon.
