abstract
  • The Directorate of Intelligence Services (DISC) is the national intelligence and counterintelligence agency of the New England Republic. The Directorate was created in April 2008 by the Intelligence Services Act, which finally combined the United States-era intelligence agencies of the New England Republic into one centralized agency. It is an independent agency within the government and is subordinate to no other executive department, thus its leadership answers directly to the President, Prime Minister, or Parliament. It is headed by a presidentially-appointed Director General. The Directorate is divided into several divisions, each representing a former field of intelligence gathering, counterintelligence and counterterrorism; namely the Communications and Information Security Division (COMISEC), the Defense Intelligence Division (DID) and the Counterterrorism and Counterintelligence Unit (CCU). The divisions are further subdivided as deemed necessary by the Director General and the respective leaders of the divisions. The Oversight Committee on Intelligence and National Security is responsible for the oversight of the Directorate and has since DISC's establishment released a public report on much of the agency's activities annually. This has left DISC known popularly by its employees and many throughout the world's various intelligence communities as "the most transparent intelligence agency in the world".
