During its production run, a couple changes were made to the RG760. In 1990, new finishes with color-matched headstocks were introduced, as the relocated volume potentiometer. In 1992 models (the final year of x60 model guitars) got the Lo-Pro Edge tremolo and direct mount pickups. For the Japanese market, a model with a special paisley graphic finish was made, known as the RG760 BK-P. In catalogs this model is also shown with the somewhat different Cutaway Heel neck joint. A similar finish was available for the RG770.

Very few RG models with an HSS pickup configuration were issued afterwards.
