| - __NOWYSIWYG__ Should there be a page on the energy reading we've seen a few times now? We now have three characters who have displayed the ability, and we know it's not based on bending, since Pathik wasn't a bender. I ask for community input since it's better to have a discussion now than create the article only for it to be a candidate for deletion. Besides, I believe that in the event of an article on that being deemed appropriate, there should be a proper discussion on what to name it, and on whether Pathik's chi reading he did with Appa to ascertain his feelings is part of this ability. Korra uses the technique so much and she was even able to use it in the Spirit World so I think we should have a page about it. I'm wondering if it's an extension of energybending but, of course we won't know unless they say it is. As for Guru Pathik, I'll have to find and watch the episode again. I see what you're referring to, though. Of course there is the "tracking" method that both Aang and Korra (and arguably Pathik) have used, but there have been other characters using different forms of reading energy. Two different types that immediately come to mind are reading energies using an element (i.e. the shaman's pseudo-healing and even metalbending acupuncture) and just evaluating energies in the surroundings in general (i.e. Jinora's abilities to sense spiritual disturbances). On that note, Jinora has also displayed that she can track others by honing in on their energy, but she employs a method that differs from the one Korra uses. I wouldn't necessarily include bending based detection, since that is rooted in bending, while the main examples of this seem to be sourced solely in spirituality. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 13:19, November 29, 2014 (UTC) Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the Shaman's use of firebending to read energy. Um...maybe we should name it "energy sensing" since you can read one's energy and track them. Then again, Jinora being the super spiritual being that she is, is able to sense energy disturbances without the use of this technique. Honestly, I don't know what to call it since the Shaman's technique is already called "energy reading" on the firebending page and Jinora has explicitly stated that she can "sense...energy." Anyone have a really good name for this technique? Maybe chi reading. However, before deciding on what to call it, I think we should define what is part of it and what isn't. For me, this includes only the stuff we've seen Pathik, Aang and Korra do, since the other effects were achieved through bending. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 22:13, December 1, 2014 (UTC) Pathik said that by "reading [Appa's] energy" he could sense where Aang was. Focusing on the energies of other individuals in order to track them seems to be the common point in most of the instances we observed. So restricting whatever we end up deciding to name this seems to be rooted in whether: 1.
* The user can hone in on another individual's energy. 2.
* The user can then focus on that energy to track said individual (visually depicted by the yellow trail). On that note, Jinora becomes excluded, since she can sense whether Korra is present (and more generally just evaluate spiritual energies around her) in a given environment, but she can't actually track Korra.
