- Eco's first novel, which to his surprise was a great success, was The Name of the Rose - a mystery set in a 14th century European monastery. His second novel was Foucault's Pendulum which some have considered to bear some similarity to the The Da Vinci Code which it predates by several years. He followed these two novels with The Island of the Day Before, Baudolino and The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana.

His most recent novel Il cimitero di Praga (The Prague Cemetery), released in 2010, was a best-seller.
